“In the Far Present” is a poem and a score. Each punctuation sequence is designed to be performed with whatever instruments are at hand, and at the interpretation of the musician. 

In summer 2021, I collaborated with Antifahorn, an Iowa City-based band, to set “In the Far Present” to music. Our work was mostly improvasational in nature—the musicians played the punctuation marks according to their individual interpretations while I read the poem. A recording from one of our sessions is below:

“In the lonely financial zone by the sea I have walked under moon and stars,” is a lyric from the Modern Lovers’ song “Lonely Financial Zone.”
