Selections from Deep-Fried Poems
(2017-present)Deep-Fried Poems is a manuscript-in-progress. Prior to being fried, each poem is dipped in a batter made from various combinations of water, flour, starch, salt, egg, and milk. The poems are then deep-fried in an inch of canola oil in a small cast-iron skillet.
Notes
A deep-fried poem from this sample was a finalist for phoebe’s Greg Grummer Poetry Prize and was published in phoebe in 2021.
An excerpt from this manuscript was a finalist for the Poetry Society of America’s Anna Rabinowitz Prize in 2020.
