Selections from Deep-Fried Poems

(2017-present)

Deep-Fried Poems is a manuscript-in-progress. Prior to being fried, each poem is dipped in a batter made from various combinations of water, flour, starch, salt, egg, and milk. The poems are then deep-fried in an inch of canola oil in a small cast-iron skillet.

A deep-fried poem from this sample won Bat City Review’s Editor’s Prize in 2020 and was published in Bat City Review Issue 17 in 2021.

A deep-fried poem from this sample was a finalist for phoebe’s Greg Grummer Poetry Prize and was published in phoebe in 2021.

An excerpt from this manuscript was a finalist for the Poetry Society of America’s Anna Rabinowitz Prize in 2020.
